ILF Neurofeedback

What is ILF Neurofeedback?

Infra-Low Frequency Neurofeedback is a gentle, non-invasive form of brain training that helps your brain work better by teaching it to regulate itself.

How does it work?

  1. Sensors on the scalp: 3 or 4 small sensors are placed on your head. They don’t put anything into your brain—they only listen to your brainwaves.

  2. Brainwave monitoring: The system tracks very slow brainwaves, called infra-low frequencies (these are slower than what’s usually measured in traditional neurofeedback).

  3. Feedback through video or sound: While your brain is being monitored, you watch a video, play a game, or listen to music. The feedback (like the screen getting brighter or the sound adjusting) changes slightly based on your brain activity.

  4. The brain learns: Your brain notices these subtle changes and starts to adjust itself to function more smoothly and efficiently—like a mirror showing the brain what it’s doing, so it can self-correct.

It's a bit like holding a mirror up to our brain.  If we see our image in a mirror we probably adjust something without thinking and the brain is no different

It’s especially helpful for people who are very sensitive or overwhelmed by other types of therapy.

Does it hurt?

No.  It's completely painless and passive.  Relax and let your brain do the work.

What can ILF Neurofeedback help with?

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • PTSD

  • Sleep problems

  • ADHD

  • Some regulation challenges related to ASD

  • Chronic pain

  • Traumatic brain injuries

  • Focus

  • Peak performance training

Neurofeedback can work well combined with other therapies too.  Especially where you might be struggling to focus or when your psychological ability to connect to the therapy process is proving a challenge.

I'm very happy to consult directly with clients but also with other therapists, where the client consents, of course.
